Please note vehicles exceeding 27.5 metres are not permitted on any roads in the Shire of Coorow.

Fire Fighting Equipment

The department of Fire & Emergency Services levy continues to work well for Council with constant updating of Fire Fighting units as well as communication and safety equipment.

Licensing

Council is the local agent for the Department of Transport, processing the following:

  • Payment of Drivers and Firearm Licenses
  • Payment of Vehicle & Boat Registrations
  • Motor Vehicle Temporary Permits
  • Conducting of CTT & HPT
  • Motor Vehicle Transfer
  • Change of Plates etc

Unlicensed Vehicles

In pursuance of the powers conferred upon it by the Local Government Act 1995 and the Shire of Coorow Local Government Property Local Law, the Council of the Shire of Coorow has made the following determination -

Interpretation:

"authorised person" means a person authorised by the local government under section 9.10 of the Act to perform any of the functions of an authorised person under this Local Law. For the purpose of this determination an "authorised person" includes a commissioned police officer operating out of the Leeman Police Station.

"motor cycle" includes any multi-wheeled open vehicle the driver of which sits astride the vehicle or part of the vehicle in a manner similar to that customary for the driver of a conventional motor cycle.

"unlicensed vehicle" means a vehicle that at the time is not licensed under the Road Traffic Act 1974.

Determination:

A person is prohibited from riding an unlicensed motor cycle or driving an unlicensed motor vehicle or otherwise using an unlicensed motor cycle/vehicle on the following local government property Reserved to the Shire of Coorow.

 1.Reserve 32639 - between the low water mark and the western boundary of Illyarrie, Nairn, Dee and Thomas Streets then west of Indian Ocean Drive extending to a line being the westerly prolongation of the boundary as identified by Council signage and as shown on The Shire of Coorow Town Planning Scheme No.2 - Map No. 4.

 2.Reserve 22521 - between the low water mark and the western boundary of Indian Ocean Drive and between a line being the westerly prolongation of the boundary as identified by Council signage then extending south to a line being the westerly prolongation of the boundary as identified by Council signage and as shown on The Shire of Coorow Town Planning Scheme No. 2 - Maps 4 and 5.

3.Reserve 31229 - between the low water mark and the western boundary of Green Head Road, Johns Street and Ocean View Drive between a line being the westerly prolongation of the boundary as identified by Council signage and extending to South Bay to a line being the easterly prolongation of the boundary as identified by Council signage and as shown on The Shire of Coorow Town Planning Scheme No. 2 - Map 6.

Penalty:

A person who fails to comply with this determination commits an offence and is liable to a penalty of a fine of $100.00.

Note: A person suspected of committing an offence under this determination and who refuses to give requested information (name and address) to an "authorised person" commits an offence.

What this means is that ALL beaches, tracks, and sand dunes within the Shire of Coorow, west of Indian Ocean Drive, are STRICTLY PROHIBITED for Unlicensed Vehicle use.

Most areas are permitted for licensed vehicles (under the Road Traffic Act 1974), however unacceptable driving behaviour in these areas will not be tolerated and persons in control of such vehicles MAY be prosecuted.
